Rachel Maddow

Rachel Maddow is not only a celebrated political commentator and author, but also the first openly gay primetime TV host in America. She hosts The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC with decency, civility, and incredible composure, which is a depressing rarity in American network television.

Also – and this doesn’t have much to do with anything, it’s just really funny – former Massachusetts senator Scott Brown was once absolutely convinced Maddow planned to run against him. And despite Maddow’s multiple statements that she had no intention of running for Senate, Brown continued to raise funds for his campaign on that premise. It got to the point where Maddow had to take out a full-page ad in The Boston Globe to specifically deny that she was running against Brown. (Brown later lost his seat in the Senate. In a 2012 questionnaire with Vanity Fair magazine, Maddow was asked, “When and where were you happiest?” Her response was as witty and optimistic as expected: “Now. My life is better with every year of living it.
